Last night we went to search for the Showy Lady-slipper orchid (Cypripedium reginae). Someone had reported seeing some, but none were ever officially documented where we were. After a lot of bushwacking and stream treading, we found a few groups the Lady-slipper, but none were in complete bloom.

Finally someone spotted it in bloom....

ok, I'm a litle jelous of that awesome pond you walked by. If you didn't jump in I'm very dissapointed.
ReplyDeleteThat actually wasn't a pond. It was a foot deep stream. However, the funny part is that we went to a spring where I wanted to jump in, but I wasn't allowed to. I asked why, thinking it was because of how pristine everything was. I was right about that, but I missed something. They wouldn't let me go in because they said the water was way to cold. 55 degrees F! Can you believe it. I could never swim in water that cold.
ReplyDeleteLMAO!!!! that is awesome. How cold did the water here get? (I know it was at least that cold)
ReplyDeleteSolo, I think it's in the lower 40s this time of year. Much colder than 55 - put it that way.
ReplyDeleteThe water during the Bar Island swim is around 55 degrees. It's the warmest the water gets.
